Teen Healthy Relationships

youth_hands_in.jpgTeen Healthy Relationships is a 10-12 week educational program focuses on providing information related to violence prevention and creating healthy relationships to classrooms in Cowichan Valley secondary schools.  Working closely with school district 79 and our local First Nations band schools, our co-facilitators work with students in grades 9 or 10. Topics include systemic violence, violence and racism in our community, gender portrayal in the media, self-care, the concept of consent and how it gets established in relationships, how to protect yourself from cyber violence, characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships, and safety planning in dating and in the community.  Issues of gender identity, sexual orientation make the program inclusive of both straight and LGBTQ individuals.

On request and if funding allows, the program is also available to youth serving organizations in our community.

The first four-years of the Teen Healthy Relationships program was funded by a multi-year grant from the Canadian Women's Foundation. The program is being funded for the 2018-19 school year with a grant from the Government of BC's Gaming Branch and a generous donation from 100 Women Cowichan.
