A Just Society

There is a crisis in our community.  One of homelessness, poverty, drug addiction, discarded needles, crime, overdoses and death.

Some people have great empathy for the marginalized and they believe society needs to reach out to them.  Others have little empathy and believe that the majority of people on the street are there because they want to be and if not, it is the result of their own actions, for which they are fully accountable.  Some parents are concerned about safe injection sites and emergency shelters in their neighbourhood, the potential decline in property values and the safety of their children.  Downtown businesses are tired of the homeless sleeping in their doorsteps and the vandalism.

Regardless of which camp you are in, and you share our concern, it is very important that you attend Nick Versteeg’s documentary video “A Just Society” at the Performing Arts Centre on March 28 at 7:00 pm.   Sponsored by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Duncan, this 60 minute video addresses the above issues and will be followed by an open mic Q & A.

Admission is by donation. All proceeds will be donated to the Cowichan Women Against Violence Society  (overseer of the local women’s shelter)
